Learn more about Tom
Throughout his life and career, Tom Basile has established himself as a powerful advocate for common sense government reform. A husband and father of three, Tom is committed to making government work for us - not just against us - as so often seems the case here in New York.
Through his work with government leaders, corporations and non-profits around the world, Tom has provided strategic and crisis communications counsel for more than 20 years. Since 2005, he has run Empire Solutions, a strategic communications firm based in the Hudson Valley. Prior to that he was Managing Director of a New York-based public relations firm.
Tom has served in government at the local, state and federal levels including in the administrations of George Pataki and President George W. Bush. He's also an author, Forbes contributor, speaker and host of “Sunday in America” on SiriusXM Radio.
In 2013, he was elected Councilman for the historic Town of Stony Point, New York, where he also serves as Deputy Town Supervisor. Tom has been instrumental in directing pro-growth, fiscally-conservative policies to attract millions of dollars in investment capital to the Hudson River community. He was recently re-elected for another four-year term.
During the Presidency of George W. Bush, Tom spent seven months in Baghdad, Iraq, where he served at the request of the White House as a Senior Press Advisor to the Coalition Provisional Authority. He was awarded the Joint Civilian Service Commendation for his work with the Coalition. He also served as Director of the Office of Communications for the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Basile was also called upon by the White House to help plan significant meetings and events including the President’s meeting with Pope John Paul II at the Vatican in 2002, activities surrounding the 57th United Nation’s General Assembly and Bush’s visit to the Nazi concentration camps outside Krakow, Poland.
For nearly a decade, he's been a professor at Fordham University at the Graduate level.
More recently, he served as Executive Director of the New York State Republican Party from 2009-11, where he helped guide victories at all levels of government, including recapturing the majority in the State Senate and more Congressional seats for the Republican majority in the House of Representatives than any other state in the nation.
In 2017, he released the critically-acclaimed book, Tough Sell: Fighting the Media War in Iraq, which gives readers his personal account of the Iraq mission during the critical first year after the fall of Saddam Hussein and the daily battle to communicate about the war to an American public increasingly opposed to the mission.
He received his Juris Doctorate attending Fordham and Georgetown University Schools of Law and is a member of the New York Bar. He sits on several boards including the Hofstra University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Kalikow School of Government, and the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, where he is also a Knight Commander. Basile is also a member of the National Italian American Foundation's Leadership Council and a past recipient of their "100 Stars" award.
He and his wife Carrie, an OBGYN, have three young children and a golden retriever, Brooke.
