Conservative State Chairman Long Says Basile Will Be a Champion for Taxpayers
ALBANY, NY – Conservative Party of New York State Chairman Mike Long today offered his enthusiastic endorsement of Councilman Tom Basile’s campaign for the 39th State Senate District to replace retiring Senator Bill Larkin to represent the people of Orange, Rockland and Ulster Counties. Basile formally launched his campaign last week with the full endorsement of Larkin, 90, who will be leaving the Senate after nearly 30 years.
Chairman Long cited Basile’s broad range of experience as a business owner, local elected official, in state and federal government service and as a state party leader as making him the strongest possible advocate for pro-freedom, pro-economic growth principles in the Senate.
“Tom Basile has time and again proven his commitment to the limited government values we in the Conservative Party hold in highest regard. It has become clear that Tom has earned the trust and support of local party leaders and, like Senator Larkin before him, I know Tom will work tirelessly to prioritize the needs of people over the excesses of government,” said Chairman Long. “New Yorkers can’t afford a Senator who will be part of the ultra-left agenda being pushed by Bill de Blasio, Cynthia Nixon and Andrew Cuomo. Tom will protect the taxpayer and help make this state more affordable. He’ll be a real champion for reform in the Senate,” he continued.
During his announcement remarks, Basile committed to fighting for many of the values of the Conservative Party including term limits, reforms to cut property taxes, educational choice, reduced regulations to create jobs, a state spending cap, and increased government transparency. Basile strongly opposes the policies of “free college” and state government-run healthcare that would decimate the economy and are supported by his likely opponent, Assemblyman James Skoufis.
“Chairman Long’s support for my campaign is truly humbling, because he has always been a force for serious reform and responsibility in state government. We all know there’s no such thing as free, but NYC liberals, who want to control all of state government, simply want more spending, more programs and more taxation we can’t afford. If we want people to be able to afford to stay in our area, Albany needs to get out of the way of our success,” said Councilman Basile.
Earlier this week, Basile received support from all three Conservative Party chairmen in the 39th Senate District.
Orange County Conservative Party Chairman John DeLessio said, “Tom Basile has the experience in government and the private sector to be a strong advocate for us in the State Senate. I know him to be a man of great integrity and like Senator Larkin, I trust Tom to fight for our conservative values – a pro-growth economy, a better tax climate, economic prosperity for all and greater local control.”
Rockland County Conservative Party Chairman William Beckmann said, “Tom Basile is a public servant that New York desperately needs in Albany. Governor Cuomo and his Democrats have been failing the middle class and making our state a place that more residents want to leave then call home. The residents of the 39th Senate District would benefit greatly from Tom’s leadership and dedication to New York. I wholeheartedly support and endorse Tom Basile for New York State Senate.”
Ulster County Conservative Party Chairman Ed Gaddy said, “Leaders with strong moral character, timeless principles, and a keen understanding of the needs and values of their communities are the kinds of representatives we need in the Senate. It’s the type of leader Senator Bill Larkin has been, and that I'm confident Tom Basile will be. Tom is a strong voice for conservative principles that increase opportunity and freedom for all our residents. He'll be a true partner to those who want to make our community and state a better place to live, work and raise a family. I’m proud to call him my friend and offer my strongest support to his campaign for the 39th Senate District.”
Basile, a husband and father of three, businessowner and two-term elected official who launched his campaign for the Senate seat on Saturday at a rally with over 200 friends and supports, has promised to be a strong voice for pro-growth, pro-individual, pro-freedom policies in the State Senate.
Basile brings a depth of experiences to the race. Beyond his public service at the state and local level, Basile was as an Advisor to the Coalition Government in Baghdad, Iraq, earning the Joint Civilian Service Commendation award. Over the past twelve years he has operated his own business, published a best-selling book, and launched a national radio show. He is also a professor at Fordham University and previously worked as managing director of a New York City-based public relations firm.
The 39th Senate Districts represents parts of Orange, Ulster, and Rockland Counties, including the towns of Marlborough, Plattekill, Newburgh, Montgomery, Cornwall, Crawford, Stony Point, Haverstraw, Highlands, Woodbury, New Windsor, Chester, Monroe, and Blooming Grove and the City of Newburgh.
